Erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction is a very serious problem for a lot of men all over the world. It is reported that the deficiency affects 10 percent of the world’s male population and almost 50 percent of all men between the ages of 40 and 70 years old. This problem can happen due to multiple various causes ranging from surgeries such as prostate surgery, high blood pressure, diabetes to cardiovascular disease and even psychological issues.

  • Due to the importance of finding a solution to this issue, there have been many remedies on the market such as viagra and penile injections or implants but all of these have been known to cause some unwanted side effects therefore a better solution had to be found.
  • Stem cells have been one of the best leads in the treatment of this issue and research has been ongoing in the last few years to develop the best stem cell therapy to cure those afflicted by erectile dysfunction. However, no research has come that close to making a viable solution until one that was conducted earlier this year by a Danish researcher at Odense University Hospital on 21 different subjects, 8 of whom regained full sexual performance as a result.
  • The research team extracted stem cells from abdominal fat that was obtained using liposuction from the 21 participants. The isolated stem cells were injected in the corpus cavernosum of the penis and the patients were monitored for the following year.
  • After only 6 months however, 8 of the participants reported that they regained a sufficient part of their sexual ability to achieve penetration in every intercourse. The effect lasted for the rest of the year therefore proving that this method can be beneficial in the long run.

These results were obtained in the course of the first ever study that used men’s own fat to cure their erectile dysfunction, and with such positive results in phase one, the researchers are now eager to go forward to a second phase that will test the therapy’s effectiveness and safety of use.
